We pray for fire to fall in the city,
for glory to sweep across our land,
for souls to come running to the altar.
But every public outpouring
begins with a private burning.
Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 6:6,
“When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
The reward of secret prayer isn’t just answered petitions
it’s God’s presence filling the earth.
The upper room didn’t start with a microphone.
It started with 120 hearts gathered in prayer.
Azusa Street didn’t begin with headlines.
It began with a handful of hungry believers crying out in a living room.
Every great move of God begins in the hidden place.
Revival isn’t about how loud the church can get in the streets.
It’s about how low the saints are willing to get on their knees.
The power that shakes cities
is forged in whispers of worship,
in tears that no one else sees,
in the quiet surrender where heaven collides with earth.
Psalm 91:1 says,
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
To dwell means to stay
to linger longer than convenience,
to make the secret place your home.
If we want revival out there,
it has to start in here.
In your prayer closet.
In your living room.
In your car rides where you cry out, “Come, Lord Jesus.”
The fire that fills the streets
is always first the fire that fills the soul.
So guard the secret place.
Don’t rush it.
Don’t treat it as optional.
Because when heaven finds a life that burns in secret,
that life becomes a torch for cities.
