We often talk about seeking God’s will, following His will, and praying for His will to be done in our lives.
But what exactly does it mean to live according to God’s will?
And why is it so important for us to understand and embrace it?
To start, we must understand that God’s will is not some vague and elusive concept. Rather, God’s will is clearly revealed to us in His word, the Bible.
The Bible is not just a collection of stories or wise teachings, but it is the very word of God. It is a love letter from our heavenly Father, revealing His character, His plan for salvation, and His will for our lives.
So what does God’s will for us look like?
God’s will is that we believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, who came into the world to save sinners and reconcile us to God.
John 6:40 says, “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
This is the starting point of living in God’s will, as we cannot do anything pleasing to Him without first having faith in Jesus.
God’s will for us involves living a life of holiness and obedience to His commands.
1 Thessalonians 4:3 says, “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality.”
Similarly, 1 Peter 2:15 says, “For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.”
As we read the Bible, we see countless examples of God’s will for us, including loving our neighbors, forgiving our enemies, sharing the gospel, and living a life that honors Him.
Living according to God’s will is not always easy, as it often requires us to go against the grain of the world and going against our own sinful desires.
But we must remember that God’s will is always good, pleasing, and perfect (Romans 12:2).
When we submit our wills to His and trust in His plan for our lives, we experience the joy, peace, and purpose that come from walking in His ways.
Living in God’s will is not only important for our own spiritual growth, but it also brings glory to our heavenly Father and shines a light to a dark world.
