Keep The Gates

In Nehemiah 7:3, after the wall was rebuilt,
Nehemiah gave this instruction:
“Do not open the gates of Jerusalem until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are still on duty, have them shut the doors and bar them. Also appoint residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some near their own houses.”

The work wasn’t over when the wall was built
it had to be protected.

The same is true in your life.
After the rebuilding, the enemy will try to creep back in
through old habits,
old wounds,
or old voices.

Protecting what God has rebuilt means setting boundaries.
It means being careful about what you allow through your gates
your ears, your eyes, your heart.
It means keeping watch in prayer,
not because you’re afraid of attack,
but because you refuse to lose what God restored.

Proverbs 4:23 says,
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

This guarding isn’t about living in fear
it’s about living in wisdom.
It’s about recognizing that the enemy is subtle,
and he’d rather sneak in through the side door than face you head-on.

So you stand watch.
You keep your armor on.
You stay close to the One who rebuilt you.
And you remember
the wall wasn’t built just for you to admire.
It was built for you to live inside the safety of God’s presence.

Because what God has rebuilt is worth protecting.
And when you guard it well,
you’re not just defending your past victory
you’re securing your future calling.
