When Obedience Hurts

We love the parts of obedience that feel fruitful.
But what about the parts that feel like death?

The relationships you had to release.
The opportunities you had to walk away from.
The comfort zones you had to leave.
The calling you stepped into with trembling hands and tear-streaked cheeks.

No one tells you how heavy obedience can feel
when it’s not celebrated,
when it costs your reputation,
when it leads you into wilderness instead of applause.

But obedience has always been the currency of heaven.

Ask Abraham.
Ask Esther.
Ask Mary.
Ask Jesus.

Philippians 2:8 says,
“He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

Obedience cost Jesus everything.
But through that surrender came resurrection for everyone.

So if it feels like something had to die in your yes
you’re in good company.

Sometimes your obedience won’t make sense to anyone but God.
And still, He is worth it.

Because every tear you shed in obedience,
every friend you lost in surrender,
every comfort you gave up to follow the call
heaven has seen it, and it is not in vain.

God doesn’t waste costly obedience.
He breathes on it.
He multiplies it.
He turns your sacrifice into someone else’s salvation.

So if you’re walking through the ache of your yes
don’t stop.

The harvest may be invisible today,
but it’s coming.
And when it arrives,
you’ll realize:
what you gave up can’t compare to what He’s about to give.

Because obedience that costs nothing isn’t obedience at all
and what costs you everything
often births glory that touches generations.
