Call Upon The Lord

Imagine a patient who is gravely ill. They have tried different remedies and treatments but to no avail. Finally, they visit a renowned physician, known for their ability to heal even the most difficult cases. The patient pleads with the doctor, “Heal me, for I trust in your expertise.” The physician, with great care and skill, administers the right treatment, and over time, the patient is fully restored to health. Grateful and joyful, the patient praises the physician for their healing.

In the same way, Jeremiah 17:14 teaches us to call upon God as our healer and savior. Just like the patient calls upon the physician for healing, we ask God to heal us and save us, knowing that only He has the power to restore us completely.

Breaking Down the Analogy

  1. The Patient Represents Us in Our Need for Healing
The patient symbolizes us when we are in need of healing—whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Just as the patient feels helpless and turns to the physician, we turn to God when we are broken or in need of restoration.
  2. The Illness Represents Our Spiritual Brokenness or Struggles
The illness represents the struggles, sins, or hardships that weigh us down and make us feel unwell. Just as the illness weakens the patient, sin and difficulties can weaken us spiritually, leaving us in need of God’s healing touch.
  3. The Physician Represents God as Our Healer
The physician in this analogy represents God, who has the power to heal us from all afflictions. Just as the physician knows exactly how to treat the patient’s illness, God knows exactly what we need to be healed and saved.
  4. The Healing Represents God’s Power to Restore and Save Us
The healing that the patient experiences represents the restoration and salvation that comes from God. Just as the patient is restored to full health, God heals our hearts, minds, and bodies when we trust in His power and grace.

Lesson from the Analogy

Jeremiah 17:14 teaches us to call upon the Lord for healing and salvation. Like a patient seeking the help of a skilled physician, we turn to God in times of need, knowing that He alone has the power to restore us. This verse reminds us that we can trust in God’s ability to heal us, not just physically but spiritually as well. Just as the patient rejoices in their healing, we too can praise God for His love, healing, and salvation in our lives when we call upon Him with faith and trust in His power to save.
