The Narrow Way

Romans 12:9 reads, “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”

At the core of our Christian journey lies the call to love with sincerity.

This love is not superficial or pretentious; rather, it flows from a heart transformed by the love of Christ. As followers of Jesus, our love is an overflow of the selfless and sacrificial love He displayed on the cross.

To love sincerely means embracing the totality of love—loving not only those who are easy to love but also those who may be difficult, different, or even our adversaries.

It is a love that seeks to understand, empathize, and offer grace to all, just as Christ extended His love to us while we were still sinners.

The second part of the verse reinforces the importance of discernment in our love journey.

To love sincerely, we must actively hate what is evil and hold tightly to what is good. Evil manifests in various forms, often disguised as temptations or deceptive paths that lead us away from God’s truth.

Hating evil involves being vigilant in identifying and avoiding sinful behaviors, attitudes, and influences that hinder our relationship with God and others. It means aligning our lives with God’s Word, seeking His wisdom, and living according to His will.

Clinging to what is good requires us to pursue righteousness, purity, and compassion.

We are called to actively seek opportunities to do good, to lift up the brokenhearted, and to extend a helping hand to the needy. By clinging to goodness, we reflect the character of our Heavenly Father, who is the source of all that is good.

In our interactions with family, friends, colleagues, and even strangers, let us choose love over hatred, kindness over cruelty, and compassion over indifference.

By doing so, we become beacons of Christ’s love, drawing others closer to the light of His truth.
