Fixing Our Minds On What Is Good

In Philippians, chapter 4, verse 8, we find an inspiring message from the apostle Paul, urging us to focus our minds on what is good, pure, and praiseworthy.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”


Our thought life plays a significant role in shaping our attitudes, actions, and overall well-being. The power of positive thinking is not rooted in empty optimism but in aligning our minds with the truth and goodness found in God’s Word.

The apostle Paul encourages us to be intentional about what occupies our thoughts, for they have the potential to shape our character and influence our relationship with God and others.


Paul calls us to fix our minds on things that are true and noble. In a world filled with deception and moral relativism, we are called to seek and dwell on the absolute truth found in God’s Word.

We must guard our hearts against the lies and falsehoods that surround us, nurturing a mindset that pursues integrity, honesty, and moral excellence.


To think on what is right and pure is to align our thoughts with God’s righteous standards. It involves embracing His moral guidelines and rejecting the corrupting influences of this world.

By pursuing righteousness and purity, we create an environment within our minds that honors God and fosters spiritual growth.


God invites us to focus our minds on things that are lovely and admirable. This includes appreciating the beauty of His creation, cultivating gratitude, and celebrating the positive qualities in others.

As we develop a habit of admiration, our perspective shifts from negativity and criticism to appreciation and encouragement, reflecting the heart of our Heavenly Father.


In our pursuit of godly thinking, Paul challenges us to think about anything that is excellent or praiseworthy. This encompasses the pursuit of excellence in all areas of our lives, using our gifts and talents to bring glory to God.

It also involves recognizing and celebrating the good works of others, encouraging a culture of affirmation and unity within the body of Christ.

May this scripture inspire us to daily renew our minds, allowing the Holy Spirit to reshape our thought patterns.

As we fix our minds on what is good, we become vessels of God’s love, light, and truth in a world desperately in need of hope.
