The Fruits Of True Wisdom

James 3:14 warns us about the dangers of harboring bitter envy and selfish ambition in our hearts.

James highlights two types of wisdom: earthly wisdom and godly wisdom.

Earthly wisdom, characterized by envy and selfish ambition, originates from a worldly perspective. It is self-centered, seeking personal gain at the expense of others. In contrast, godly wisdom comes from above, flowing from the heart of God. It is pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere (James 3:17).

Bitter envy is a destructive force that can infiltrate our hearts if we are not vigilant. It is the resentment we feel when others possess what we desire, leading to discontentment, jealousy, and even strife. Envy breeds a toxic mindset that hinders our spiritual growth and damages our relationships. It robs us of joy and blinds us to the blessings God has already bestowed upon us.

Selfish ambition is another stumbling block on our journey toward godly wisdom. It manifests when our desires and goals become centered solely around our own success and recognition. It often leads to a competitive spirit, where we prioritize personal gain over the well-being of others. In the kingdom of God, however, true greatness lies in servanthood and humility.

As followers of Christ, our lives should bear the fruit of godly wisdom. James describes this fruit in James 3:17-18.

When we embrace godly wisdom, we become agents of peace, working to reconcile relationships and foster unity. We exhibit a gentle and considerate spirit, treating others with respect and compassion.

Our lives become marked by acts of mercy and generosity.

Godly wisdom empowers us to discern the truth, make fair judgments, and live authentically, without hypocrisy. Let us strive to bear these fruits, becoming living testimonies of God’s transformative power.

May we become conduits of peace, love, and mercy, bearing the fruit of godly wisdom in every aspect of our lives.

Remember, true wisdom is not merely knowledge but a transformed way of living. Let us walk in the wisdom that comes from above and shine as beacons of light in this world.
